Daring Exchange of Ideas
Daring Exchange brings together different communities and groups to identify each others problems and jointly find sustainable non violent solution.
Target Group
Communities facing social, cultural and practical development problems and communities and groups in conflict over resources.
Objectives
To spread success and knowledge from one community to another, especially in cases where other forms of communication are limited or don’t exist. To overcome conflict for resources between different groups by providing a safe facilitated environment for them to develop alternatives to violence. Our plan is to expand this project, over time, to communities from similar environments but widely different locations and across international boarders. First within East Africa, then the continent and beyond. A pastoralist community in arid lands from Kenya has much in common and much to learn from a pastoralist community in arid lands in, for example, Argentina. By bringing people from around the world together to share problems and solutions these and other marginalised people gain strength emotionally, culturally and politically.
Methods
We bring groups together and facilitate their discussions. Over several meetings we support them as they identify the root causes of each others problems and find solutions. Often one group will already have found answers to issues both groups share and the other will have answers to different problems. In cases of conflict resolution our role is to bring together a broad spectrum from within the communities involved and, with time and familiarity, enable these groups to develop alternative solutions to the issues behind the violence. The key to the success of this program is that the solutions are entirely their own, we only provide the support for them to find them; this makes the solutions much more sustainable.
What We Need
Our biggest requirement is transport. It is very important to the success of this project that a minimum of 20 members of each community is able to make the exchange trip. We also require trained facilitators with suitable language skills or translators and funding to provide simple meals and ‘chi’ (tea) at the meetings.
Without your help DARE would be unable to keep helping communities build a brighter, sustainable future. The money you donate ensures that our people can remain in Isiolo; our current projects can continue and future projects can be started.
DONATE TO DARE NOW
Daring Football
Daring Football is all about encouraging young people from the streets and deprived backgrounds to play football rather than get involved with drugs or criminal activities.
The passion that the local kids in Isiolo have for football is incredible. They all fervently support either Arsenal or Manchester United. The difference being part of a team and regularly taking part in sporting activites can make to the very poor, homeless and otherwise disadvantaged kids is amazing
Daring Enterprise
Daring Enterprise is about helping pastoralists in northern Kenya establish alternative sources of income to supplement their livelihood from livestock.
With additional sources of income the local pastoralst communities are better able to withstand the droughts, floods and livestock diseases that are so debilitating to the people of this harsh region.
