Daring the Street Youth of Isiolo
Daring Street Youth is about helping young long term street dwellers to reintegrate with society and develop the skills to improve their lives in the future.
Target Group
Teenagers and young adults who spend most of their time on the street. Generally this group have been street dwellers for most of their lives and attempts to place them in education and other institutions in the past have failed. This group has become fully adapted to street life and are the most difficult group of street youth to help. Currently the target group has more 100 young people in Isiolo and unfortunately the numbers are steadily increasing.
Objectives
To improve these young people’s life skills and therefore improve their quality of life. To help them integrate with wider society from which they have become excluded both socially and in the context of government and social services. Our help covers such issues as becoming registered citizens, understanding their rights and how to access the support available to them. To help these young people improve their future through schooling, apprenticeships and enterprise.
Methods
The establishment of a drop-in and resource centre will be the core support tool of our work. It will be staffed by people with the practical experience and skills to support and encourage the young street dwellers. The drop-in centre will be a base for peer to peer support and education as well as personal support provided by the drop in centre staff. Through the centre the young people will be able to access basic facilities such as toilets and washing areas as well as more sophisticated resources such as internet/ pc access and reference material. This will be a one stop shop for information relating to support groups, social services and access to education. The centre will also provide a base for training and practical educations sessions.
What We Need
We require funding to establish and maintain the drop-in and resource centre including equipment such as computers with internet access, furniture, teaching materials on relevant practical subjects as well as experienced staff and trainers.

Daring Football
Daring Football is all about encouraging young people from the streets and deprived backgrounds to play football rather than get involved with drugs or criminal activities.
The passion that the local kids in Isiolo have for football is incredible. They all fervently support either Arsenal or Manchester United. The difference being part of a team and regularly taking part in sporting activites can make to the very poor, homeless and otherwise disadvantaged kids is amazing
Daring Enterprise
Daring Enterprise is about helping pastoralists in northern Kenya establish alternative sources of income to supplement their livelihood from livestock.
With additional sources of income the local pastoralst communities are better able to withstand the droughts, floods and livestock diseases that are so debilitating to the people of this harsh region.
